Advicent introduces Narrator® product suite with aim to set new standard in client-advisor collaboration

Narrator® Clients, Narrator® Advisor, and Narrator® Connect debut

Milwaukee, WI – June 6, 2016

Advicent, the financial technology firm that brought the industry NaviPlan® and Figlo®, introduces the Narrator® product suite featuring Narrator® Clients, Narrator® Advisor, and Narrator® Connect. Narrator Clients and Narrator Advisor work hand-in-hand and are linked in terms of an advisor’s purchase and implementation. Narrator Connect is designed to provide utility to third-party partners that want to customize features, applications, or tools to meet their company-specific needs.

“In today’s landscape, financial technology not only strengthens the relationship and trust between a client and advisor, it can actually engage the client in a way that it never has before, and allow them to feel at the helm of their financial future,” says Phil Cunningham, CEO of Advicent. “We have always been committed to providing innovative financial products. With the launch of Narrator Clients, we’re confident that we’re pushing the industry forward in a positive direction by linking together every facet of the client journey from start to finish while keeping financial planning at the core.”

As the emphasis on improving client experience and interaction influences many aspects of the advisor business, the arrival of Narrator Clients demonstrates the intention of Advicent to establish a new standard in client-advisor collaboration. The platform provides advisors’ clients with a readily-accessible means of reviewing their entire financial plan, including all related accounts.

The interactive tool features an array of elements that can bolster the client-advisor experience, including streamlined document exchange, trusted account aggregation through Quovo® and real-time access to goals and current personal financial management. The product also features a “financial life timeline,” which allows the client to make forward-projecting calculations and see how different financial decisions will impact their overall wealth management plan.

Alongside Narrator Clients, Advicent has also rolled out Narrator Advisor, a dashboard that provides financial advice professionals with a way to efficiently manage their book of business and harbor analytics that can be used to identify sales opportunities. New adopters of Narrator Clients will have the opportunity to take advantage of the Narrator Advisor platform as a complimentary add-on, as both come with built-in integration with the NaviPlan and Figlo financial planning solutions from Advicent.

“We built this technology to improve the client experience, client-advisor collaboration, and for increased advisor utility. With new mandates from the Department of Labor, the Narrator product suite reinforces the relationship between the two parties and allows advisors to fully grasp the client’s ‘best interests,’ given the expression of goals made and tracked in the software,” says Cory Olson, director of global product management at Advicent.

The Narrator offering is rounded out by Narrator Connect, the enabling technology that provides access to Advicent financial planning data and services via API. Narrator Connect allows third parties to build their own tools and applications using the Advicent platform as a base.

Olson and other members from Advicent will be present at the Pershing Conference in Orlando, FL from June 7-9. Stop by booth 202 for more information on Narrator Clients, Narrator Advisor, and/or other product offerings.

Q: What is Narrator Advisor?

This dashboard enables advisors to save time and get a deeper dive into their book of business.

Q: Will advisors and firms be able to customize Narrator Clients and Narrator Advisor to their branding?

A: Firms/advisors can upload their logo and choose between different color palettes to emulate their branding. Advicent can also apply the style sheets of a firm to provide a fully-branded white label portal.

Q: What planning tools with which Narrator Clients will integrate?

A: Currently, our NaviPlan and Figlo financial planning solutions.

Q: What is the impact on the user experience if the advisor is not using the planning capabilities of Figlo or NaviPlan?

A: Even without a financial planning engine behind Narrator Clients, users can link their accounts and manage their finances, as well as share documents with their advisor. If the advisor does not set up a financial plan for their client, the financial planning data (including goals, net worth, and the financial future timeline) will not be present within the client portal. Instead, there will be text for the client to contact the advisor to set up a plan, initiating the holistic planning experience.

Q: Why is it important for clients to link current spending habits to their long-term financial plan?

A: Many clients may lose track of spending which hinders their probability of success in reaching their financial goals. The PFM tool allows clients to log in anytime and see their goal progress as it connects to their current spending habits, empowering them to see the entirety of their financial situation – both short-term and long-term.

Q: What makes this PFM tool different?

A: Advicent has built a PFM tool that enables clients to manage their personal finances within the context of financial planning. Our tool is integrated with Quovo – a leading data aggregation service that provides more historical data that is easier to access. The combination of our PFM tool and the data aggregation of Quovo makes this tool very unique. Opposed to other PFM solutions, this tool is designed to help the client and advisor built a more collaborative relationship while keeping financial planning at the core.

Q: With what types of accounts does Quovo integrate?

A: Quovo integrates 401(k) accounts, brokerage accounts, banking accounts, credit union accounts and credit cards. In many cases, these are considered ‘held away’ accounts (accounts not managed by the advisor).

Q: How frequently is this account aggregation data updated?

A: The accounts in the PFM portion of Narrator Clients update nightly. The updates include new transactions for banking and credit card accounts and new balances for financial accounts. An advisor can also update ‘held away’ accounts in the financial plan within Narrator Advisor.

Q: When a client aggregates their accounts, what is the level of detail visible to the advisor? Will an advisor be able to see individual transactions? Will they be able to specify a level of detail?

A: The individual transaction information of a client will not be displayed to the advisor. The advisor will be able to see the overall budget and spending of the client for general categories in specific months, but no greater detail. This represents the most conservative position with respect to privacy of client information. Additionally, the client cannot grant access to the advisor to view more detail.

Q: What firms will benefit from the Narrator product line?

A: Narrator Clients is ideal for all segments: independent advisors, mid- to large-size RIAs, broker dealers, banks, and large enterprise firms who are seeking a turnkey client portal solutions. For organizations looking to build a fully customized digital client experience, Narrator Connect may be a more fitting solution.

Q: How will Narrator Clients and Narrator Advisor make advisors more efficient?

A: This tool eliminates the time-consuming process of data entry to produce a goal based financial plan by utilizing data aggregation and the document vault. Advisors are then enabled to spend more time on building a relationship and collaborating with the client to provide the best advice possible.

Q: What are the key traits of end users who would benefit from this technology?

A: The type of client that expects up-to-date technology and 24/7 access to their financial plan and advisor. They are clients who educate themselves before purchasing a product and demand a collaborative financial decision-making process.

Q: How secure is the Narrator product line for both advisors and their clients?

A: Advicent is the only financial planning software that has met the standards to obtain an ISO 27001 certification. This will apply to our Narrator products as well.

Advicent empowers advisors for success amid industry changes, spurned by anticipated DOL fiduciary rule

Narrator® Clients, Narrator® Advisor, and Narrator® Connect debut

Milwaukee, WI – June 2016

With the DOL fiduciary rule taking shape and many companies creating action plans to implement the anticipated impact, Advicent is building a DOL Education Center in Advisor Briefcase, a powerful marketing communications tool, which will be released to users in the near future. This education center will include various pieces of content such as an overview of the DOL Fiduciary Rule and the methods of enforcement, as well as content to assist in positioning the value of financial planning that advisors can leverage when educating clients on the impact of the rule.

The DOL fiduciary rule gets to the core issue for investors: trust. Trust remains one of the biggest reasons investors pick their advisor. There are many smart, engaged, and honest advisors; however, a small fraction make headlines for the wrong reasons. Thus, the DOL seeks to tighten the definition of an advisor’s fiduciary standard, which will increase the responsibility of the advisor to act in the best interest of the client. This law is designed to validate the advisor’s advice, which can increase the trust investors have in financial advisors. In concept, this is good; however, the implications of how it works can be messy and confusing.

This change in fiduciary responsibility is forcing the industry to change compensation, workflow, processes, and advice in a hurry. This will require clear and concise communication to educate advisors and clients. Using Advisor Briefcase, as well as a comprehensive and collaborative technology in the planning process, allows firms to build a tremendous amount of trust in advisor-client relationships. This will offer clarity into the changes ahead and reinforce the fact that the advisor puts the client’s best interests first.

“The DOL fiduciary rule is changing the way many financial service professionals provide advice and earn revenue,” said Phil Cunningham, chief executive officer at Advicent. “The Advicent product suite helps advisors justify their recommendations through our industry leading calculations and enables everyone to understand their financial future through the new education center in Advisor Briefcase.”
